Happy World Environment Day: Helping Kids Connect Gorillas, Habitats, and Conservation

Happy World Environment Day 🌎

World Environment Day is a reminder that protecting animals starts with protecting the places they call home. It’s also the perfect opportunity to help kids connect wildlife, habitats, science, and conservation through meaningful, hands-on learning.

At edZOOcation, we believe one of the most powerful parts of environmental education for kids is how naturally empathy grows when children understand the connection between animals, ecosystems, and people.

Because kids protect what they understand.

This month, families exploring June’s Gorilla Box are discovering:

🦍 How gorillas live in rainforest habitats

🌿 Why healthy ecosystems matter

🔬 How humans and wildlife affect one another

🌎 Why protecting animals also means protecting their homes

Why Teaching Kids About Habitats Matters

Healthy rainforest habitats provide gorillas with food, shelter, clean water, and safety — and they support countless other species, too. When children learn how ecosystems work together, conservation becomes something real and relatable instead of just a distant idea.

Through hands-on wildlife activities for kids, families can explore important environmental topics in ways that feel engaging, memorable, and age-appropriate.

Inside Gorilla Month, kids explore:

🦍 Gorilla family groups and social behavior

🌿 Rainforest habitat activities

🔬 Wildlife science and conservation

🩺 Zoonotic disease and wildlife health

🧠 Screen-free STEM learning for kids

These conservation activities help children build curiosity, critical thinking skills, and empathy while making science exciting and approachable.

How Gorilla Conservation Connects Wildlife and People

One of the biggest lessons kids discover during Gorilla Month is that conservation is deeply connected to both wildlife and people.

We’re honored to spotlight our partnership with Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH), an organization doing incredible work to protect endangered gorillas through conservation, education, public health, and community support.

CTPH works alongside communities living near gorilla habitats in Uganda to help both people and wildlife thrive together. Their programs focus on protecting endangered mountain gorillas by improving public health, supporting sustainable livelihoods, promoting conservation education, and reducing the risk of diseases spreading between humans and gorillas.

This work is especially important because gorillas share about 98% of their DNA with humans, meaning they can catch some human illnesses. By helping families access healthcare, sanitation, and conservation education, CTPH helps create healthier environments for both local communities and gorilla populations.

This month, 10% of profits from Gorilla Month support CTPH and their mission.

Because real conservation connects:

🦍 Wildlife

🌎 Habitats

❤️ People

Helping children learn about organizations like CTPH shows them that conservation isn’t just about protecting animals — it’s also about supporting communities, protecting ecosystems, and working together to build a healthier future for everyone.

At edZOOcation, we love helping curious kids connect animal learning to the real world around them — one meaningful discovery at a time.

Explore Gorilla Month and help your child discover wildlife science, conservation, and screen-free learning through hands-on activities designed for curious animal lovers.
