Our edZOOcrew Kid Conservationist of the Month spotlight celebrates young conservationists who are making a real difference for wildlife. This month, we’re proud to recognize Brinley (age 8) for her inspiring work in monarch butterfly conservation and pollinator habitat restoration. Her story shows how kids helping wildlife can create meaningful environmental change.
From the moment we read her nomination, we knew Brinley embodied the heart of edZOOcrew.

How This Young Conservationist Supports Monarch Butterfly Conservation
Each month, our edZOOcrew program highlights a child taking action for animals and habitats. Brinley stood out because of her hands-on commitment to monarch butterfly conservation.
With care and patience, she has:
-
Raised over 30 monarch butterflies for release
-
Helped injured bees recover safely
-
Planted native pollinator gardens
-
Nursed a viceroy butterfly back to health
Importantly, she raises monarch caterpillars outdoors in protective enclosures. She understands that natural light cycles and seasonal temperatures are essential for healthy migration. That awareness makes her work especially impactful.
Even better, there is hopeful news for monarchs. According to WWF and monarch monitoring partners, eastern monarch populations doubled during the 2024–2025 overwintering season — a powerful sign that habitat restoration and conservation efforts make a measurable difference.
Science-Based Monarch Butterfly Conservation Practices
At edZOOcation, we promote science-based monarch butterfly conservation. While raising caterpillars can be educational, habitat restoration remains the most effective long-term solution.
We encourage families to:
-
Keep rearing enclosures clean and well-ventilated
-
Avoid overcrowding caterpillars
-
Plant native-only milkweed species
-
Prioritize pollinator habitat restoration
By planting native pollinator habitat, young conservationists like Brinley support biodiversity far beyond monarch butterflies.
Restoring Pollinator Habitat Through Native Prairie Planting
Brinley’s conservation work extends beyond monarch rearing.
Three years ago, her family planted a native prairie. Today, it is thriving with pollinators. This winter, she will help plant another 1.5 acres using frost seeding.
Native prairie restoration:
-
Strengthens pollinator habitat
-
Improves soil health
-
Increases biodiversity
-
Supports long-term ecosystem resilience
Because of these efforts, Brinley truly represents what an edZOOcrew Kid Conservationist of the Month should be — action-oriented, informed, and compassionate.

In Her Own Words
When asked why protecting animals and nature is important, Brinley shared:
“I love all animals, even bugs, and think it’s important to protect them for our future.”
Local Action, Global Impact
As part of her recognition as our edZOOcrew Kid Conservationist of the Month, edZOOcation is making a $100 donation in Brinley’s name to the Snow Leopard Conservancy.
Although her monarch butterfly conservation work supports pollinator habitat locally, her compassion reaches across the globe. By protecting snow leopards, we connect local conservation to global wildlife protection.
Together, we are raising the next generation of wildlife guardians.
Thank You to the Families Supporting Kids Helping Wildlife
Behind every young conservationist is a family nurturing curiosity, compassion, and care for the natural world. We are deeply grateful to the parents and caregivers who encourage these efforts and make space for meaningful environmental action.
Please join us in celebrating Brinley and the incredible impact she is already making. The future of our planet is brighter because of young Wildlife Guardians like her.
